Yep! Only this time it’s the Gasparilla International Film Festival. It runs from February 26th through March 7th at The Tampa Theater.
Armand Assante will make a guest appearance and there will be a variety of screenings.
Also happening this weekend is the Renaissance Festival. Come out and get Medieval. It’s a great experience.

It’s Shortcake Time!
The Florida Strawberry Festival starts tomorrow in Plant City, just east of Tampa. Good food, good music, and fun for everyone.
If you’ve never been to one of these…it’s a must-see event. The food is worth the trip…but there is so much more. There are midway rides, and various 4-H and agriculture exhibits. Tour “Cracker Country” where you can see how Florida’s early settlers lived.
At the end of the day enjoy a concert by top name entertainers. This year they have The Gatlin Brothers, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jake Owens, Kool and the Gang, and many more. Everyone should come away happy.

The Drivers Make the Difference
While I was driving a client to the airport, we got into a discussion about the reasons she stayed with “XYZ Company.” (Many of us drive as sub-contractors for this company.)
She was very frustrated by the service at the reservations and dispatch areas of this company. She’d had many bad encounters in including a certain degree of rudeness. (She uses their service at least twice a week.)
She stated that, “The only reason she stays with them is due to the drivers.” The drivers seem to make up for the deficiencies in the other areas.
Why put yourself through that. Simply go to http://www.tampabaytowncars.com/ and pick your driver.

Knights With A Heart!
Knights with a Heart is a program that started a few years ago by The Krewe of The Knights of Sant’ Yago. It’s a way to bring part of the Gasparilla celebration to those people who couldn’t attend the parades and other festivities.
Krewe members in costume visit various area hospitals on Valentine’s Day, and pass out beads, toys, and goodies to sick children, injured veterans, and cancer patients in an effort to bring a little cheer into their lives.
They arrive in the Krewe Trolley (used in parades) and spend time at James Haley Veterans Hospital, St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, and the Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida.
With the Knight Parade falling on Valentine’s Day this year, the Krewe opted to go on the day before, February 13th. This is one of the events that is near and dear to all of the Krewe member’s hearts.

Perfect Weather, Near-perfect Parade
The weather was picture-perfect for the Gasparilla Parade this past Saturday. In the mid 70’s with no humidity, this was a chamber of commerce dream. There were huge and for the most part, well-behaved crowds for this annual Tampa event.
The only problems that I saw were a couple of float or vehicle breakdowns along the parade route. The Plant High football team’s float had a malfunction…but they carried on like the champions they are. They got off and marched in the parade.
Next Saturday, February 14th is the Knights of Sant Yago’s annual Illuminated Knight Parade. This is the largest illuminated parade in the South East U.S. and is quite a beautiful parade. All of the entries glow with thousands of lights as they make their way through Tampa’s famed Latin Quarter, Ybor City.

Imagine that! Below freezing in Tampa.
This morning it was 28 degrees according to the outside thermometer on my fence. This definitely NOT Florida weather...at least not here in the Tampa Bay area.
It is supposed to warm up by Saturday, just in time for the Gasparilla Invasion and Parade.
If you plan on drinking (and everyone does at these parades) be sure to make arrangements with Tampa Bay Town Cars to take you where you want to go. they can be found at www.tampabaytowncars.com
Stay warm.

Coming up next in Tampa Bay
The Super Bowl is over. The Steelers won. But, there are still big doings here in Tampa Bay. The Florida State Fair opened this weekend and the Gasparilla Pirate Invasion and parade is this Saturday, February 7th. If you’ve never attended one of these…it’s a must-see parade and party. Lots of beads, wenches, and grog. As always… if you need a ride, go to http://www.tampabaytowncars.com/ and pick your driver.
